Dear Families

Welcome to the first newsletter of the 2008 – there will be four newsletters in total and these will coincide with the release of each holiday program. The April holiday program is open for bookings and may be viewed here. Your feedback on the program is very welcome at any time. Please email us.

Please note that full payment must accompany bookings, bookings are not refundable and bookings may not be made if you have an outstanding account with the Centre at the end of term.

Registration for 2008

Bookings for 2008 have quickly reached the levels of the end of 2007 – this reflects the larger number of two-parent working families with children at Clovelly Public. It is now becoming difficult to get a last-minute casual booking on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. Families are encouraged to make permanent booking or try to make the casual booking with several days notice. More...

Communications

COOSC keeps families up to date on what is happening at the Centre by the following methods: website, e-news, school newsletter, emails and direct communication. Please ensure we have your most recent contact details at all times including your email address. The Centre welcomes your feedback and suggestions; Please email us.

Annual General Meeting

One of the ongoing challenges of running the Centre is having a committed management committee. This group is made up of parents with children at COOSC and is a volunteer committee. COOSC thanks the 2007 committee and urges parents who anticipate using the Centre for the next 2+ years to consider participating on the Committee in 2008 to fill current vacancies. The AGM will be held at 6.30pm on Thursday March 27 in the Out of School Care Rooms and all positions will be open for general election.

The office bearer roles are: President, VIce-President, Secretary and Treasurer. Furthermore there are several “Parent Representative” roles open. The Committee meet once a month and the Management Committee roles include: appointing key staff, financial management, overseeing policy development, refurbishments and purchasing, input to programming and resources development. All families registered with the Centre are eligible to participate on the committee. For more information please email Celia Donovan.

Staffing

Paula Gray returned to the Centre as Coordinator in February 2008. Mark is staying  on in the role of Assistant Coordinator. Scott is undertaking further childcare studies  while continuing to work at Clovelly Out of School Care. The Centre is fortunate to  have such a stable and experienced team.

Programming

There has been a rollout of new activities for children aged 9 and over in COOSC. Activities started from mid-term and will continue throughout the year thanks to a grant the centre secured from Waverley Council. This is in addition to the active  after-school funding that COOSC successfully applied for from state government.

Mondays – Capoeira (Brazilian martial arts) Angola in the hall
Tuesdays – older children go to WAYS youth centre at Bondi beach to play with children from Bronte and Bondi Beach OOSH, activities for weeks 8-11 include:
  • Fizzics Education
  • Bondi Beach planned activities
  • Bronte OOSH planned activities
  • End of term BBQ
  • Wednesdays – Barefoot Bowlling at Bronte Bowls
Term II activities for 9+ will include public transport skills that will involve taking the older children on buses (how to get from A-B) how to purchase your tickets etc.  Behavior on public transport. Circus Skills with Swoop Physical Skills are also  planned.

The Centre has also been asked to resume the “homework club”. This means  creating a quiet space for older children for from 4pm to 5pm in the lower rooms in order to encourage children in years 3-6 to do some homework.

5-8 Programming is ongoing and includes two sports sessions again in 2008 – Coaches Troy and Stuart are at the centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays to lead the children in active and fun skills development.
We welcome your feedback on any aspect of programming, Do you have new ideas for 9+ chldren? Please email Paula Gray.

Centre Accommodation and Validation

The Centre is undergoing a validation process this year as part of its continuous development in best practice. The first part of this has been a consultation task asking families to complete a Centre Survey. We thank all families who have taken the time to participate in the survey.
